Bamboo rice (known as Mulayari in Malayalam, Moongil rice in Tamil) is well known for its nutritional and medicinal values. Apparently, the bamboo plant flowers after 12 years and these have in them the bamboo seeds. And this is what is referred to as bamboo rice.
