Size & Shape: Tumba Pears usually appear irregular in shape and are smaller than commercial varieties of pears. The size and shape actually vary with the growing conditions, but generally, there is not much uniformity.
Color: The skin color of Tumba pears varies from green to yellow, sometimes with minor scratches or scabs. These blemishes tell a story of a more natural and less standardized growing process.
Taste: It is well known for good taste, in its full and original measure. The Tumba pear will be sweet and tangy in slight measure but with notes much more complex than mass-produced pears. It has been described in flavor as "earthy" and refreshing.
Texture: The flesh of a Tumba Pear is generally firmer and coarser than hybrid pears; it can be crisp when first picked but, with ripening started, it may then be softened with the turn of a knob.
