This is a tropical tuber that has been part of traditional south Indian cooking for a long time
It's a tuber from the Yam family.
It could be referred to as elephants foot yam by some but it's regional name is Karunai Kizhangu.
Most popular dishes are roasted with spices rubbed on it. Or made into a curry called masiyal. These two sides are great with any kind of rice item. Our personal favourites is to have them as sides with curd rice, that's the best combo.
Tip: to prevent it's possible throat itchy feel - all the traditional recipes include turmeric & tamarind. Make sure not to skip those.
